Today was a sad day for me as I am saying goodbye to my long time hairstylist, Kelly. I’m losing him to Seattle, where he is moving to get on with his life. Great for him and I wish him tons of luck, but sad for me.
As a thank you for all the fun times and great cuts (including one major wedding style) I baked him some strawberry shortcake cupcakes whose recipe I found online. Quite a fun little project, these cupcakes. I love the idea of a filling, and the staff at Saco raved about their fresh taste (thanks guys! You sure know how to make a girl feel good!) which I’m sure was due to the fresh strawberries. I think I’ll be trying some other “filled” cupcake recipes in the future.
On a side note, I sure have a lot to learn about baking. I have made cakes, cupcakes and frostings from scratch dozens of times with no real consistency at all. Sometimes they’re too big, too small, to runny, too sticky. Fortunately for me, all my mistakes have still tasted delicious even if they aren’t very pretty. This also is a testament to why there are actual recipe testers in this world, because not every recipe you read will actually work out. I guess I consider myself an amateur recipe tester. These were pretty good, but my search for the perfect, flawless, cupcake recipe continues….
Kelly, good luck to you in Seattle! I will definitely see you every January when I make my annual trip. I hope life brings you all things good.
