Smoky Weekend

The Hubs occasionally decides he wants to start smoking meat at home (or making his own salsa, dehydrating beef jerky, making chili, making lasagna) Last christmas I bought him a smoker. He determined it wasn’t “the one he really wanted” so I told him to return it and get whatever one he wanted. He never did, and I just assumed the urge had passed. Well, football season is upon us, and guess what The Hubs has been talking about? He finally ordered the smoker he wanted, and spent the weekend getting his meat on!

To his credit, it turned out really great. I wasn’t thrilled when he first fired it up and the smoke flooded into the house through all the open windows, but once we remedied that, the meat was awesome!  He seemed to really enjoy the process and I enjoyed a couple days off from cooking. Now, I can’t eat smoked meat every day, but I’m sure some of his football loving friends will welcome a feast each Sunday.

It was perfect, sunny weekend at the Wet Spot (our backyard pool). I finished my book, my 4th in 2 months since I got my Kindle, and I was so thrilled to have time to read so much. I was a total bookworm as a kid, and have always loved to read, but the Kindle makes it so easily accessible I love it! I also finally got around to starting to learn to knit. The Hubs isn’t the only one who doesn’t always follow through on certain ideas. I asked for a “knit your own mittens kit” for Christmas, which he bought for me, and have always planned to knit mittens while laying out at the pool this summer. I started this weekend, and realized I need to practice knits and purls before I start in on the pattern. So far so good!

I see a lot of people talking about how it “feels like fall” on Facebook lately. It was cloudy and cool all week long here, and that, paired with all the back to school commercials, started to make it feel like fall to me too. Thankfully, our fantastic, summery, SoCal weather was back this weekend, and I got to continue working on my tan. I know some people look forward to fall, boots and sweaters, and what not, but my heart belongs to summer, and I ALWAYS want it to last as long as possible! I think my doggies may disagree………
