Val’s Fitness Tip of the Month

Val (1)

I promised you lovelies some new features to go along with my new site, and here’s one now! Meet Val, my long time bestie, marathon runner, and my personal coach for all things health and fitness related. Val is not only the fittest person I know, but she’s also the MOST encouraging when it comes to other people and their health related goals. She takes motivation and determination to a whole new level.

I know from personal experience that this gal is a wealth of health and fitness knowledge, so I asked her if she would share some of her best tips each month with my wonderful readers. Feel free to ask her your own questions in the comments section! Take it away Val….

1)     My health & fitness Golden Rule: Maintain energy balance.

I don’t believe in restrictive food diets or trendy workouts, I believe in science. For the average healthy adult, if calories consumed equal calories used, there’s little room for change. When we tip our balance one way or the other we slowly start to see the effects. Sure, most of us have this basic biological knowledge, but we get caught up in “losing weight”. Committing to a lifestyle of energy balance is the first step!

Great advice Val! Your body will know if you start eating too little or exercising too much.  Everything you do both physically AND mentally will start to seem more difficult than it normally does. Drastic changes like that are tough to handle, so to keep your body feeling and operating at its peak, focus on keeping  those energy levels stable instead of shedding pounds.

  1. yes! great new feature! way to go val. just like accounting – maintain balance.

  2. I agree! Some times people forget how simple it can be to lose weight. Difficult, yes, but it’s basic knowledge.

  3. Great advice Val… love the new feature! I think it’s great to also keep in mind the quality of your calories and make sure there are more that are packed with nutrients rather than mostly empty calories…when your body has what it needs to run at an optimum level, you won’t have as many cravings that would cause a tip that balance

Looking forward to more of Val’s tips! :)

  4. i love this, and so true! you two are like oprah and gayle :) !
