If you didn’t know, Friday’s are for gratitude here at Betsylife. Writing this weekly gratitude journal has been one of the single best things I have ever done for myself. It’s so amazing how the more you express gratitude, the more things you find to be grateful for. It’s the best self-fulfilling prophecy ever. This week, when our country joined together in mourning to reflect on the terrible events of September 11th, 2001, I’ve found counting my blessings to be even more meaningful. Let’s do it.
1. I took Leila to Build-A-Bear this week for her birthday present since I’m going to be out of town all next week. Did she love it? I think the expression on her face says it all. Jen had drawn a picture of a bear on the calendar, and when I went to pick her up she squealed, “look at the calendar!!!! This is so EXCITING!!!!!!” I about died. The shocking part is that she picked out the pink explosion that is her bear. For those that don’t know Leila, she’s not really “princess-ey” and is wildly obsessed with Peter Pan. She told the girl at Build-A-Bear that her name was Tinkerbell (you can kind of see that on her name tag sticker in the picture). There was an actual Tinkerbell costume for a bear, but once Leila saw this pink ball gown, there was no convincing her of anything else. The bear is also wearing hello kitty underwear, has pink, heart-shaped, sparkly sunglasses, and rainbow glitter shoes. Leila wanted it to sing One Direction, but I vetoed that. Instead it sings Happy Birthday. The bear’s name is, what else, Peter Pan. I’m so grateful that Leila is the creative, imaginative, independent girl that she is. She is truly one of the joys of my life, and she absolutely made my week.
2. I’m SUPER grateful that the stifling heat broke this week. Its been nice to feel the ocean breeze again, and be able to run without feeling like I’m going to die. September is generally my favorite month here. All the tourists leave, and we get our beach and parking spots back. I hope its still pleasantly warm when I get back from my trip in a week so I can enjoy the late San Diego summer for a little longer.
3. I’ve been going to hot yoga once a week for the last couple of weeks, and I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of it. This week I felt like I had my best class yet! The Hubs agrees that he feels like its getting better for him too. I’m glad this is something we can do together, and its a nice way to break up our body pounding workouts mid-week.
4. This week has been super busy preparing to go out of town for a week, but I’m wrapping it up today with fancy coffee Friday and a haircut! Taking time out of your day for things that make you happy is essential even if its only a few minutes.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I’ll be reporting from Minnesota next week. See you then!
