I’m kind of a nightmare in the kitchen. I actually prefer to cook when no one is around because it can be embarrassing how huge of a mess I make. It’s always imperative that I am able to clean up before The Hubs gets home from work so as not to receive any wide eyed stares that don’t pertain to the actual meal that was prepared.
It’s so important that I keep my workspace clean when I’m working on a paid food styling job, so I’m always on the lookout for little helpers like this one, the Trudeau utensil pot clip. Now, I think these were designed to keep your spoon above your pot while it was cooking on the stove, and I use it for that too, but I’ll literally clip it onto anything. On this particular day, I was making a quiche, so I clipped it to the mixing bowl and set the whisk on it while I chopped vegetables.
So much better than resting my utensils on paper towels, packaging lids, onion skins, or pretty much anything I can find to avoid a mess, while really just making a bigger one. (Sorry to Kathy my cleaning lady!) Sure I still use a traditional spoon rest too, but I tend to lose sight of it in the heap of prep that’s happening on my single, small, square of countertop that’s next to the stove. I just think its so much easier to get a bunch of these, clip them to every pot or bowl you’re using, and then keep the utensil for that component attached to that bowl. It makes everything so organized, and helps keep my anxiety low!
Plus, the best part is that it only costs $6! OR maybe the best part is, that when all is said and done, you can just throw it in the dishwasher! OR maybe the best part is that they now come in pink for breast cancer awareness! (I love a pink kitchen utensil) Overall, this little gadget is totally awesome. Now I can reserve my mess making for my painting studio where every surface is covered with a tarp or drop cloth. I know myself so well!
