I spent last weekend visiting my bestie Jenny in Seattle, and checking out her brand new home. While I was there she asked me if I planned to write a blog post about my trip to which I replied, “no.” She told me she loved reading my recaps, and since her and her husband, Frank, were such amazing hosts, I decided to oblige.
I head to Seattle every year to see Jenny, and we always follow the same pattern of events. Eat. Drink. Eat. Drink. Shopping, Eat. Drink. This trip was no exception only this time there was finally room for The Hubs to join in! The four of us had a MAJOR blast.
We arrived Thursday evening to appetizers, champagne, a new home tour, and a delicious home-cooked meal a la chef Frank. It’s really not a trip to Seattle without a cheese board.
Jenny’s new neighborhood, Ballard, is home to several local breweries. We had ourselves a little brewery tour on Friday.
That is beer-battered bacon from Maritime Pacific Brewing Company. Yes. BEER-BATTERED BACON!!
Next stop was Hilliards Tap Room. There was a dog there so I was happy. We picked up some awesome souvenir beer glasses like the one pictured.
At Populuxe Brewing we tasted the rainbow.
After a quick clean-up, we headed to Revel for dinner where we ate pretty much everything on the menu including a “whole pig.” Dinner was served to us by one of The Hubs high school classmates! Small world.
After dinner we hit a bar called 9 Million in Unmarked Bills to round out the evening.
The next morning I was double fisting coffee and a smoothie. Fortunately, I was able to recover in time for brunch.
Brunch consisted of seafood, oysters and champagne cocktails at Westward. Jenny and Frank kept apologizing for the rainy weather, but I actually enjoyed it. The waterfront view was still beautiful to me despite the drizzle.
What a better way to spend a rainy afternoon than beers and skee ball at Kings Hardware? I won. Frank lost and had to pick up the tab. #sucker
We were finally able to complete our shopping mission and came home to clean up and recharge with some espresso and caramels.
We still had some time before our dinner reservation so we hit up Rock Box for a few rounds of karaoke. This place is awesome. You get your own private room and can sing till your hearts content. How hilarious would it be to be a waitress there?
Dinner (not pictured) was at Barrio where Jenny and I burned our faces off on some hot ass shrimp. The margaritas helped cool us off.
Next stop was Bar Sue for whiskey shots and pickle backs. A pickle back is just a pickle juice chaser for a shot. I’ve seen this at several bars in Seattle but no where else I’ve ever traveled. Anyone else know of this phenomenon?
We wrapped up the night with ANOTHER round of karaoke at my favoritest dive bar in the pacific northwest, The Crescent.
Here’s a picture of The Hubs at the airport the next day. Phew! What a weekend.
I’ve been visiting Seattle for 6 years, and although I missed a few of my usual Capitol Hill favorites since Jenny has moved, I was stoked to try out what Ballard had to offer. I puffy heart Frank and Jenny, and I’m looking forward to our next epic adventure together!
