2016 marks my fourth year writing this Great List. If it didn’t serve me so well, I definitely would have stopped by now. For me, I really depend on this list to keep me in a good head space. Plus, in a world of unpredictability, it’s nice to have something constant and reliable to hold on to. I’m thrilled that this list has grown in popularity throughout 2015. In fact, it’s one of the Greatest points of the last year for me. I hope you all will continue to tune in, and participate in your own Great Lists in the months ahead.
Clearly 2015 was kind of a shit show for me. I spent the majority of the year questioning my self, and my most trusted relationships. There were times when it seemed like everything I had ever believed in or counted on was gone, or worse, never existed to begin with. I cried a lot. What I learned from all the upheaval, or should I say, re-learned, were things that I had known all along, but sometimes lost sight of.
- Always be kind. It doesn’t matter if people take advantage of your kindness. That’s their problem.
- Work hard. The world owes you nothing. Go out there, be the person you want to be, and prove yourself through your actions.
- “If you truly love yourself, you can never hurt another.” When someone hurts you, remember that they are hurting within themselves, and instead of reciprocating anger, show a little empathy.
- The only person you can truly count on is yourself. As my entire support system broke down in 2015, I realized that I’m still here and still capable of living the life I want. I just had to dust myself off and get on with it.
2016 now lies ahead of me. Exciting, terrifying, and completely unknown. I’m looking forward to the opportunity of a clean slate, and am anxious to get on with the adventure that awaits me.
Cheers to you all! Let’s do this.
