Is it possible for a week to seem short and long at the same time? That’s kind of how I’m feeling right now. I’m hoping the weekend will progress nice and slowly so I have a chance to recharge. I had a realization this week that, “Oh crap! Its summer!” Traditionally June is gloomy and cloudy in San Diego so I always kind of think of it as a throwaway month. A month to “get stuff done”. However, its been really nice and sunny this year, and for some reason I just realized it. From this point on I’m going to make a conscious effort to maximize my summer fun! Ready, set, go!
1. This week was a Great week for our country. The overturning of the Defense of Marriage Act was a decision that will change the course of our history forever. Whenever something so culturally changing like this occurs, I can’t help but think of my Grandma and imagine what it was like to see the world change from the time she was young until the time she died. Although I believe this ruling was ridiculously overdue, I am grateful that it happened when I’m at an age where I can really appreciate the magnitude of it. Congrats to our Gay and Lesbian community and congrats to the Supreme Court for (finally) doing the right thing. I think we can all learn that what is right and good will always prevail, as long as we continue to fight for it.
2. I did a ton of food styling work this week. I love being on set and working with others in the creative process. It’s true what they say, when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work at all.
3. Our street FINALLY got repaved. Jeez, it was like I was living on a off road track there for the last year or so. Pothole after pothole got patched making the street even bumpier than it already was. Poor Senty is pretty low the the ground and had trouble navigating some of the giant potholes that would appear. The city had been teasing us for the last month by putting out no parking signs, but then only patching cracks. Then they put out the signs again and only repaved one section on one side of the street. Finally this week they came through and we have smooth, shiny new blacktop. Yessssss!
4. My garden is finally starting to show some signs of life! I’m not sure why it was so slow to start this year, but I’ve got my first tomato ready to pick, I’ve got a bunch of cucumbers coming in and a couple of itty bitty squash starting to grow. I feel like last year I grew zucchini without trying, but this year they’ve been hesitant. Patience has always been one of my toughest challenges, but I can see the payoff growing so I’ll continue to wait it out. I guess it just means that I’ll have a bountiful September!
My weekend plans include sun, pool, more sun, champagne, and shooting a new Betsylife video! Sounds like summer to me! I hope you all have a splash-tastic weekend as well. Why not start off on the right foot by leaving a comment and letting me know what you’re grateful for this week?
