July already?!?! It certainly doesn’t feel like it with temps in the 50’s here in the Bay Area. This year has been going by pretty fast which is a good thing I guess. It doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for homesickness, although the holiday last week was a tough one.
1. We spent the 4th in Lake Tahoe with The Hubs college roommate, his family and some of their friends. I’m not sure that these people even understand how grateful I am for their kindness and festive spirits. The 4th has always been my favorite holiday, and I was starting to feel a bit of an ache in my heart when I realized I wouldn’t be hanging my bag of outdoor decorations on my pool deck, shopping for the perfect red, white and blue pool ensemble, hosting our annual salsa contest, and watching the fireworks from our rooftop. It turns out, some other people are as fanatical about the 4th as I am, and my new friends showed up with a giant bag of holiday decor and novelties (bandanas! stunner shades! paper straws! tablecloths!) and we spent a very fun star spangled day on a boat. I returned back to Oakland with a full heart, some new friends, and the realization that life can still be Great even if it’s very different now.
2. My leg is healed 80% at this point and I’m finally starting to feel like a normal human being that is not bone tired from my body constantly fighting an infection. Looking forward to resuming regular day to day activities that aren’t shut down by the need to nap. I hate being sick.
3. My oldest and dearest childhood friends were all together in Illinois last week and Facetimed me from a party they were at. I was sad that I couldn’t be there as I had initially planned, but holy hell did we still have a fun time together on the phone. Is there anything Greater than laughing until you cry with friends who have known you your entire life? I feel very fortunate to have friends like these that have stuck by me for 30 years.
4. The Hubs and I finally came to an agreement on what to do with our spare bedroom, a decision we’ve been mulling over for months. It’s one of the final, unresolved issues in our new space, and I’m stoked we are finally ready to move forward. After our houseguests this weekend (Yay Val!!) we’re going to put the plan into action, and hopefully have a fully functioning, perfectly organized room within a few weeks. You hear that Jenny? Your room will be ready soon.
That’s it for me this week. Still plugging along at life. Looking forward to hugging my bestie tonight and showing her around my new hood. Have a Great weekend everyone!
