Phew. It has been pretty intense around here lately. The Hubs has been traveling constantly, and when he is home we’ve had houseguests, or I’ve been out of town. Work has been busier than ever, and it’s all I can do just to keep up. The good news is that it’s Friday. We’ve made it through another week, and we’re still standing. Gratitude has been the only thing that’s kept me going so let’s take a second to reflect on the Great things.
1. I’m not sure if it’s stress or what, but it feels like I haven’t had a good nights sleep in months, that is, until this week. I guess it was the culmination of a ton of huge projects I’ve been working on, but something finally allowed my mind to quiet itself and I feel like a new person. With sleep comes a bit of clarity, and I’m feeling renewed and ready to take on the beginning of my 36th year, and the end of my first year here in Oakland. Times are still a changin’ but at least I’m feeling like I’m in a place where I’m able to deal with whatever comes along next.
2. For once I feel like Oakland is on my side by providing a beautifully warm week in the high 70’s. Thank you nature. The smallest things like sleep and warmth keep me sane, and I’ve been lacking both of those for a good long while. I’ve been spending as much time outdoors with the dogs as possible knowing full well that (real-ish) winter is on it’s way.
3. I’m beyond thrilled to welcome the newest member of the Fun Month club, Elouise Reed, born yesterday to my dear friend and college roommate, Katie. There is nothing that makes me happier then to see my wonderful friends, who have added so much to my own life, have children who will undoubtedly be awesome and make this world just a little bit Greater. I can’t wait to know you little girlfriend.
As much as I would like to say that I’ll be doing all kinds of fun stuff for my birthday weekend, the truth is, we’ll probably be assembling some Ikea furniture and going couch shopping. This is 36 people. Riveting. I do have plans to go to a museum on Monday, my actual birthday, so that’s something. Wishing you all a peaceful weekend as well.
