I’m a morning person. Yep. I’m “that guy”. I’m the one that gets up between 5 and 6am each day without pressing snooze once. I get in a 5 mile run or a 60 minute hot yoga session before the sun comes up, and I’m usually well into my daily to-do list before most people are even awake. I know how obnoxious this sounds, but it totally works for me.
I haven’t always been a morning person. In college I could easily sleep past noon. My early bird-ness began about seven or eight years ago when I worked strange hours from 5am-10am and 7pm-10pm. Being self employed requires a lot of personal discipline, so once that job ended, I still have maintained my schedule because I’ve found that it’s not really as terrible as it sounds.
For me, the key to becoming a successful morning person (and enjoying it!) is to give yourself enough time to do things at your own pace. I like to call this, morning wins.
I love the peace and quiet of the early morning hours. I start my day by groggily perusing my custom homepage, which includes Buddhist thought of the day, Daily puppy, weather report, horoscope, daily Calvin and Hobbes cartoon, current moon phase, word of the day, Spanish word of the day, Tiny Buddha RSS feed, Daily cup of yoga (yoga articles), People magazine top headlines, Buzzfeed’s latest posts, Google news, How-to of the day, Foodgawker, and LifeHacker RSS feed, and I check my email all while slowly enjoying the first of many cups of coffee. It’s a nice way to ease my brain into the day. Mental win!
Once I’ve won on the brain awakening front, I like to start my baking for the day (I save the savory cooking for lunchtime) while I wait for the sun to come up so I can go for a run. Baking cookies is the perfect morning activity because it doesn’t require a ton of concentration while you wait for the coffee to kick in, yet no one ever thinks of baking at 7:00am. Total morning win if you ask me.
Finally the baking is done and I hit the beach for my morning run (Fitness win!). By this point I’m majorly jacked on coffee and raring to go. I always keep belVita Breakfast Bites (either mixed berry or chocolate) in the car with my water bottle for the post-run drive home. I can’t eat before I run, and I’m never able to eat a lot right after my run, but by this point in the morning I know that I need some sustenance.
This little snack is perfect to round out my morning routine, and power me through until lunch (when I cook, photograph and eat my dinner). belVita Bites Breakfast Biscuits are a nutritious, convenient breakfast choice that contains slow-release carbs from wholesome grains to help fuel your body for 4 hours. Besides, when I get home there’s usually a ton of clean up to do, so I’m definitely in need fuel for that.
So that’s it! If you want to become a morning person, my advice is take things slow. Concentrate on simple, attainable morning wins, and rely on convenient food choices like belVita Bites Breakfast Biscuits to ease you into your days.
