My trip to Seattle last weekend could not have come at a better time. It can be hard when life gets as stressful as it has been lately to live 1200 miles away from your best friend. Getting to see Jenny and hang out with her in person was a total boost of happiness in my life.
We had a fabulous time eating, drinking (champagne AND coffee!!) , and shopping, as per usual, only this time it was peppered with lots of wedding talk since Jenny and her boyfriend, Frank recently got engaged! This is great news for me since it means I’ll be able to see them both more than twice this year! Wahoo!
We kicked off the weekend Thursday night with some margaritas and catching up at Poquitos after they picked me up from the airport. Exactly what I needed after a stressful week, and a long flight. On Friday we checked out a wedding venue, then Jenny and I headed out for our annual tradition of birthday champagne lunch at Matt’s in the Market, followed by shopping. Matt’s now has a restroom inside the restaurant (not out in the market) which the staff was very proud of.
Friday night, Frank hosted Jenny’s birthday party as his studio, Push Pull Studios. Frank’s a super talented music producer, and an excellent party host. Since I go to see Jenny for her birthday every year, I’ve gotten to know a lot of her friends, and it was fun to catch up with all of them as well. Wine, champagne, and top notch catering by La Spiga made for a fabulous evening….and a wicked hangover the next day. Just ask Jenny.
Saturday morning we had to scrap our brunch plans at Revel for the much closer Coastal Kitchen. Thank god for bloody mary’s! It was a rough one. We napped the rest of the day, and woke up in time to get ready for dinner at La Bete. The food was great, the service was even better, and the atmosphere was interesting and inspiring.
It didn’t hurt that its located only 2 blocks from Jenny and Frank’s house! After stuffing our faces with multiple courses including coconut donuts for dessert, we headed to Montana for some drinks. We didn’t try the pickle back we heard about…….maybe next time. Since Jenny’s hangover was still lingering at dinner, she didn’t have much to eat. After a few drinks she got her appetite back so we stopped at Taco Gringo’s on our way home. I loved the cute light brite OPEN sign, and the limited menu of unique taco flavors. Jenny had a rabbit taco, a vegetarian taco, and a turkey rosemary taco. Gotta love a late night taco!
Sunday Jenny and I both headed to the airport together. She was off to Montreal, and I home to San Diego. Our last meal together was airport food. (Wendy’s for me, bagel for her) Sigh. My friend Krista always says that every day she leaves San Diego is the worst day of her life. That’s how I felt saying good-bye to Jenny. I did get to go home to the Hubs, and doggies which made things a bit better.
Today is Jenny’s actual birthday so I want to say a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to her! May this year be your best yet!
Ps. to all those wondering if my bundt made it to Seattle, it did, and it was VERY pink inside
