Meal delivery boxes are so hot right now. You know the ones; several meals worth of ingredients conveniently packed into a box with recipe cards delivered to your door. I always thought that they seemed like a great idea……for someone else. After all, I develop recipes for a living. I spend every day in the kitchen creating and experimenting. I love to cook! It’s not a chore to me like it is to other people, so why would I need I pre-formulated meal sent to me?
That is, until I heard about Sun Basket.
The first thing that caught my attention was that Sun Basket uses sustainably sourced organic ingredients, but when I saw the recipe options is when I really perked up.
Salmon with Piquillo Pepper and Cucumber Salsa!
Persian Chicken Dumpling and Egg Noodle Soup!
Oaxacan-Chocolate Oatmeal AND a Tropical Smoothie Bowl?!?! Breakfast?!?!
Whoa. These were not your run of the mill recipes. These recipes sounded really interesting, tasty, and most importantly, recipes I never would have come up with myself. Plus, did I mention there was breakfast options, as well as paleo, gluten-free and vegetarian recipes?
When my friends at Sun Basket contacted me to see if I wanted to give it a try, I was sold.
The week the box arrived turned into pure chaos. I had a photo shoot every single day, plus several events to attend and photograph as well. I was up early each morning to answer emails, and do blog work before heading off to meet clients. I was on my feet constantly, and found myself arriving home at night starving, and without a meal plan.
That’s when I really understood the true benefit of meal delivery programs.
I always thought these meal kits were for people who didn’t know how to cook, weren’t interested in recipes, or for busy moms that didn’t want to spend their precious few minutes of personal time each day grocery shopping or meal planning.
I never once considered them a tasty stand in for people who are truly interested in food, care about where their ingredients come from, love delicious and unique recipes, and also work long hours, but that’s exactly what Sun Basket became for me.
In the past, when I’d have a long photoshoot day, I would usually drive thru some random fast food restaurant on the way home, then collapse on the couch amongst a pile of greasy wrappers. I would always feel terrible the next day, but I always justified it to myself as, “a girl’s gotta eat”.
The Sun Basket meals I’ve had were healthy, organic, and are easily ready in under 30 minutes. Totally doable, and majorly worth it on those busy days.
Plus, the breakfast options were a much better way to start off a crazy day then the usual bottomless cup of coffee and slice of dry toast eaten in the car on the way to the set like I had been doing in the past.
From now on, when I see that my week is going to be jam packed, I’ll definitely be ordering Sun Basket so I have something healthy to eat when I get home at the end of a long day. If you want to give Sun Basket a try, you’re in luck! I’m giving away a one week subscription so you can check out the awesomeness for yourself.
