Hi Friends! My favorite fitness guru, Val is back with another fabulous tip. Let’s be real here. Although snow may still be on the ground in some places, bikini season is right around the corner. ANY day is a great day to start incorporating more fitness into your life, but those swim suits can be a powerful motivator. If you need the extra push, be sure to check out Val’s tips from January and February as well.
Find a buddy.
First and foremost, exercising is more enjoyable with a friend. It’s especially gratifying to have someone to share in the celebration when reaching your goal! Healthy competition amongst pals will push you further; plus, the distraction of a friendly chat helps to pass the time. Supportive friends are an incredible source of encouragement and perfect for holding you accountable. You’re much less likely to bail on a workout when you’ve committed to meeting someone. If you’re not keen on sweating with your BFF (…ahem…Betsy!…), telling each other about your latest exercise efforts will motivate both of you to keep working hard.
Leave it to Val to call me out on this one. I personally hate working out with people. My workouts are my solace. My alone time to clear my head. Plus, when I have time to work out, I need to do it right away. I don’t have time to wait around to meet up with someone or my motivation goes right out the window. I think I may be an anomaly. With that being said, I do talk about my workouts A LOT. With Val, with Jen, and with The Hubs.
When I first decided to start running, I would run one block then walk one block. Pretty soon I could run two blocks, then three. The I could run all the way to the beach (0.8 miles at the time) without stopping. Then I could run to the beach and back without stopping. Over a year and a half, I built up to 12 miles! With every milestone Val got a text, “I ran 2 blocks without stopping!!!!” and I would always get a text back, “Yeah girl! That’s awesome!” The purpose of having friends is for love and support so use them for that! I think you’ll find that their encouragement will make all the difference in your fitness success.
