Whoops! We got a week behind with all the excitement building around Fun Month, and everything that has been going on lately. Not to worry! I haven’t gotten behind on my fitness and neither has 24-week preggo Val! You can find her and her bump slow jogging along the beach most days. She found out she’s having a GIRL who I’m sure will be just as fit as her mama!
Time for some healthy insights from this still-can-fun-faster-than-me baby incubator.
Pump up the Jams
Aside from a friendly face, a new music playlist is my most cherished running buddy. In fact, there are songs I completely avoid listening to in my car in order to protect the motivation and freshness for an upcoming workout. The right music selection not only distracts from pain and fatigue, it elevates your mood and provides extra motivation to help push a little further, faster, longer, harder. Similarly, listening to slower tempo tunes during your cool down signals your body that a workout is coming to an end and will gradually reduce your heart rate. **Keep personal safety in mind – headphones will greatly reduce your awareness of nearby automobiles and cyclists.
Val and I regularly discuss workout music at length. For someone who generally likes to work out solo, it’s essential to my motivation. If my iPod dies during a workout the odds are good that I won’t even finish. Stupid I know, but its the truth. So get out there and pump up the jams! If you need some inspiration you can find Val’s Spotify workout mix HERE and mine HERE.
