Lately I have been go, go, GO and I’m not quite sure if it’s working for me. On one hand, I think I’m self aware enough to know that I work most effectively when I set aside time for creative thinking, and for being outdoors. On the other hand, I wonder if I’m not being as effective under this new, jam packed schedule because I’ve never pushed myself hard enough for long enough. Doesn’t it take like 3 weeks of consistently doing something to make it a habit?
I know lots of people work all day, and are out of the house all night either socializing or networking, and they seem to get along just fine. I, however, seem to be turning into a mush-brained zombie. Is it just that my willpower strengthening, or am I heading for a nervous breakdown?
I guess only time will tell.
Fortunately, i’ll have plenty of time to reflect when I head to Maine for a much needed break with The Hubs later this week. Contemplating life over a giant plate of lobster sounds like a good way to get my priorities straight.
Beyond not feeling like a crazed lunatic constantly, I think there are a lot of other aspects of my new lifestyle that need to be improved. Most of all my diet. Up until July first I ate really healthy, got plenty of rest, drank water, and felt great. Since then I’ve slogged through my days fueled on coffee and junk like orange cheese crackers, and these waffled chocolate chip cookies. My fingernails and skin look like crap, I am always dead tired in the afternoons, and my digestive system has turned on me. Once I get back from Maine, there will be some changes that’s for sure.
But these cookies……oh, they were worth it. Did you know you can “bake” chocolate chip cookies in a waffle iron? On a particularly hot afternoon last weekend, I was totally devoid of energy, and really didn’t feel like turning on the oven. I had a thought that perhaps I could “bake” cookies in the waffle iron. Well guess what? It worked. I took my traditional cookie dough recipe, i.e. the one listed on the back of the package of chocolate chips, and scooped it onto my waffle iron. The result was totally-terrible-for-you deliciousness.
I swear I’m cleaning up my act just as soon as I get back from vacation. Just you wait, a new Betsy free from stress and junk food is coming soon!
