I must say, despite the glaring fact that we had to say good-bye to our good friend Adam as he deployed to Afghanistan on Christmas Day, this Christmas still ranked near the top of “best yet”. The weekend was long and relaxing, the company was a delight, and the weather was as perfect as it gets around here this time of year.
On Friday The Hubs and I ate sushi with our friends Valerie and Stefan. Last year we ate sushi on Christmas Eve, Eve, then went for a run along the bay on Christmas Eve morning. At the time, we discussed making that an annual tradition, only this year we skipped the run. Ha! Christmas Eve is our big celebration with all our friends. This year, Valerie hosted and we were happy to welcome both Adam, and his wife Courtney’s families to join us. On and off throughout the day we had 17.5 people (with Leila) for the merriment, and boy was it merry.
Gifts were exchanged, food was consumed, football was watched. It was perfection. Of course, Leila was the main attraction!
On Christmas Day, The Hubs and I exchanged gifts, skyped with our families around the country, watched movies, and stuffed our faces all day long. It was awesome! For Christmas dinner I made this potato chip encrusted beef tenderloin that we ate on the couch in our pajamas. Nothing formal in this house.
The rest of the weekend was spent playing with our new toys, reading, and enjoying the perfect Southern California weather. We’re dog sitting for Jack, so there was a lot of fetching happening.
I count my blessings every day that I’m able to do this in the winter time
I hope everyone had an equally special holiday. Big cheers to a week of reflection in preparation for the start of a new year. I’m planning on 2012 being my best year yet!
