I FINALLY got rid of that can of cherry pie filling in my pantry! I think I bought it last year……jeesh.
This pantry project has been pretty awesome. It’s definitely looking waaaaaaaaay emptier in there, which does wonders for my anxiety levels. Oprah always said, “your home should rise up to greet you”. When my house is cluttered, it makes everything else in my life seem harder, and it definitely doesn’t provide a friendly greeting. Having a nice, reasonably full, pantry has inspired me to do some purging in my closet as well. I think maybe the garage and the junk drawer are next.
I guess dump cake is a pretty common recipe, but I had never heard of it until my second mom (my bestie Val’s mom, Julie) made it once when she was visiting. Jules always has the awesomest, EASIEST dessert ideas. The other day, the sight of the cherry pie filling jogged my memory, and my first dump cake was born! My mother in law was visiting at the time, and she said that she always put pineapple in her dump cakes. I didn’t have canned pineapple, so I just chopped up the fresh one I had just bought. It was delicious, and hands down the easiest dessert I have ever made. Hooray for empty pantries!!
1 can (20 oz.) cherry pie filling
1 pkg. yellow cake mix
1/2 c. butter
Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan. Dump in the pineapple and juice, spreading evenly. Pour cherry pie filling over the pineapple, spreading evenly. Add dry cake mix evenly over the fruit. Slice butter and lay all over the top. Do not mix. Bake in a 350 degree oven 1 hour.
