We live in a beach community which translates to very small houses (at least in our case). Since everyone wants to be as close to the ocean as possible, the homes are built right on top of each other without much “yard” in between. You’d be shocked at how much house you can fit into a tiny little lot. Anyway, living in small spaces, in this area, for so many years has made me into an organizational Ace! Thankfully, the house we live in now is laid out much more cohesively than our old house, so we do have more storage, but you can only fit so many cabinets into a tiny kitchen.
Since I received tons of cooking related gifts for Christmas, I have been in need of a place to put them since my kitchen was already pretty maxed out. Enter the Container Store! I did some measuring last week and ordered a ton of “organizing equipment” The box actually came yesterday, but I was so busy that I didn’t even have time to open it. Today I got right to work and my kitchen has never looked so good. We’re still pretty full, but at least I can get my hands on everything without stuff falling out of the cabinets onto my head! We are also now able to close the drawers without first playing a game of drawer jenga to make everything fit. Check out some of my before and after’s below
These drawers had really been a nightmare in the past. We have very few drawers in our kitchen so we HAD to do something to maximize the space!
All my new mixer attachments had just been sitting on the counter along with all my new cookie cutters (football player shapes, thanks Hubs!) I got these storage bins to house them on the shelf! (The pasta attachments still didn’t fit in the bins, oh well) Jeez, looks like its time to buy some more wine!!!
Our pantry was getting a bit out of control. We have room in the garage for extra dry goods, but I hate going out there to get stuff I use everyday. This can rack is a real space saver! You can actually see the bottom of the cabinet now! Also note the packet “file” for my onion soup packets and what not.
Ok so I’m a huge cleaning nerd! My Dad would be SOOOOOOO proud! (and shocked probably) I just think that I always function better in a clean and organized space. I’m totally one of those people who cleans off their desk and files everything away when I’m done working each day too. I mean, who doesn’t love to walk into a perfectly clean room/space/house? If you don’t want to start eating healthy, or working out, or what have you this new year, at least take an hour or two to de-clutter and organize the space you spend the most time in. If you keep it clean, it’s really only a one time commitment, and it will make SUCH a difference in your day to day anxiety levels!
