If there is anything that can put your life into perspective it’s a new baby. In fact, kids always have a way of helping me get out of my own head.
This week was all about baby Sydney.
The rest of the week may as well have not even happened.
I’m so grateful to have been a part of welcoming this sweet girl into our wild world. My best friend Val was her usual strong self despite having to leave her husband behind with the flu, and have this baby without him.
Thank god for Grandmas.
Sydney is the most alert newborn I have ever met. From the second I held her I could see her personality, how different she already is from her sister, and how magnetic her energy is. This little lady definitely has something special. I’m so excited to be her friend.
My parents sent me a shirt this week that says “Aunt, like Mom only cooler”. I’m thrilled to add another mini to my crew of nieces and nephews that (hopefully one day) think of me as cooler than their parents. I’ve got so much knowledge to share that doesn’t fall into the category of classic childhood teachings. Sydney can look forward to such lessons as
-How to climb a tree
-How to ride your bike really fast then slam on the breaks and make a skid mark on the sidewalk (see also: how to cope with road rash)
-The art of eating ice cream for dinner
– Glitter: there’s no such thing as too much
– The benefits of interpretive dance
-Car singing: how to increase your volume to hit those high notes
-Tie dye goes with everything
And my two specialties that are kind of classics
-how to fall in love with reading
-fun with pets
I get so excited every time a new baby is born. Keep ’em coming friends and family!!
I’m looking forward to spending today volunteering for an incredible charity, The Emilio Nares Foundation, and hopefully spending the rest of my weekend gardening, and baby hugging. I hope you all find and equally fulfilling way to spend your weekend.
