I have not been able to shift my mind out of its slowest gear this whole week. I’m so happy that its Friday finally and I can change my effort level to match my brain speed for the next couple of days. Weekends are the best! Even sitting here writing this Great List I find myself just staring blankly out the front window. Perhaps an additional cup of coffee will help me make it through this final work day of the week.
1. Last week, on several occasions, I found myself being kind of rude to The Hubs. He texted me asking where a 24 hour pharmacy was and I replied “don’t you have an iphone?” among a few other similar texting scenarios. Then, on Tuesday, after leaving Starbucks with a fresh grande coffee, I got to work and proceeded to spill the entire cup over the contents of my desk. In my mind, my rudeness karma caught up with me. Literally my first thought was “this is what I get for being a bitch to The Hubs last week”. Whether you believe that this was karma or not, I’m grateful that I have the awareness to recognize when I am wrong. Sometimes we act before thinking. I try to live my life mindfully, and to consider every action before I make it, but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. If something like coffee spilling reminds me to be a better person then I’ll take it. After what a pain it was to clean up (of course the office was out of paper towels when this happened….probably karma for the other texts) I’ll definitely think twice the next time I’m about to send a text out of annoyance or anger.
2. I finally got new running shoes this week. I’ve been wearing the same, holey, worn out Asics for nearly 2 years. I tried to buy new shoes several months ago, but the ones I got were terrible (that’s what I get for going discount) so I reverted back to my old standbys. Finally this week I made the trip to Movin’ Shoes and picked myself up these Mizunos (thank you local resident coupon!). The sales guy described them as “performance shoes” and thats exactly how I’m going to treat them. As soon as I’m done writing this Great List, I’m taking them for a spin around Mission Bay.
3. Today is the longest day of the year! I wish my besties Val and Jen were here to enjoy it with me (they are both in Chicago visiting family) but I have another group of friends who are willing to maximize their daylight with me. Tonight we have a 30th birthday dinner planned for my wonderful friend Katie. I’m sure it will involve great amounts of champagne and sunglasses wearing well after 7pm. I can’t wait!
4. Boozer the dachshund has been back visiting us this week. ‘Nuff said.
I hope you all have a magical summer weekend! Fire up a grill. Splash in a pool. Involve yourself in the Great outdoors. Whatever you do, don’t take the extra daylight for granted. Next thing you know it will be winter and dark at 4pm so enjoy it while it lasts.
