The sun was already shining at 6am today when I woke up (a fairly uncommon occurrence for coastal living). I have a feeling this is going to be a Great weekend. If it’s anything like last weekend I’ll be thrilled. Our friends came over and we pooled it up to celebrate the summer solstice. A few moscow mules, some smoked meat, and a riveting performance of Let It Go from 3 year-old Leila made for a pretty perfect day. Honorable mention goes to the new pretzel shaped pool float that arrived in the mail courtesy of my friend Jenny. She’ll be here next week to test drive it herself (Can’t wait!!!!).
Despite all the fun stuff, and good vibes, two things distinctly stood out to me this week as being Great.
1. A random person that I do not know left a really nice comment on one of my blog posts. Generally my blog comments are about the food, “looks delicious”, or “I can’t wait to make this for my family”, but this person expanded to say “……and I also really enjoyed the story you told leading up to it.” As a person who’s blog is really driven by visuals and pinterest, it was so Great to hear that someone actually READS what I’m writing instead of just skimming to the recipe. I appreciate ALL blog visitors, but this particular comment really made me smile.
2. A friend of mine, who is in the midst of a breast cancer battle, took the time to write me a nice note saying how she appreciates my posts and outlook on life in general, and that she’s so glad we met. I mean, talk about making my day. I spent way too many years of my life being angry. I made a choice long ago to let all that go, and to try to live more joyfully. A big part of that is trying to share and spread joy through good deeds and compliments. It’s always a Great feeling to do something nice for someone else, but it’s also so Great when someone else does something nice for you. This small note was truly the best part of my week. Thank you Louise!
I encourage anyone who’s reading this to really consider how you feel when someone pays you a compliment, and go out this weekend and give someone else that gift by paying them one. Sharing joy is the one surefire way to make your day Great!
