Happy Birthday America! The 4th of July might just be my most favorite holiday of all time. There’s generally sunshine and great food plus, fireworks make everything better am I right? We’ll be celebrating poolside today in our usual fashion….by having a salsa contest and grilling Mexican food. What’s more American than that? This weeks Great List is all about the small things. My week was full of them. Check it out.
1. Frenny is here! My friend Jenny and her husband Frank fly in from Seattle to spend every 4th of July with us. This is just another reason why the 4th is my favorite holiday. Jenny and I have been friends for 20 years, and the times I get to spend with her are some of the best ever. I’m very blessed to have several lifelong friends, and I am super grateful for them all every single day of my life.
2. When I was prepping for Frenny’s visit, I found a Shell gift card that I thought had $10 on it. The only reason I would go to Shell is for a carwash (the gas there is way more expensive than Vons gas) so I went to give Senty a bath and found out the card had $25 on it! YES!! Looks like Senty will be getting her annual car wash for free for the next 3 years (if she lives that long). I love finding money.
3. Long story short, I have a hilarious and supremely random fan base in the UK due to a website called PopBitch. Their fandom began with a photo of me that was posted on a friends website long before this blog ever existed, but they’ve become readers along the way. This week, a random post of mine started to blow up, and upon investigation it seems that the PopBitch message boards got ahold of it and were discussing it amongst themselves. When I clicked to the site, the new header of the messages boards said “We still love you, Betsy” Oh. my. god. I just about died with laughter. I CANNOT believe that this is still going on 8 years or so later, and it cracks me up every single time. People of PopBitch, I still love you too. No matter how many times you call me a twat.
4. This week marked one of my favorite days of the year, new running shoe day! Despite having several holes, and completely worn smooth soles on my old pair, I had been holding out on getting new running shoes until we got this summer coupon book that always has a coupon for the running shoe store. It never came and finally I decided to just bite the bullet. Turns out that it came out a month ago and I must have missed it. Rats. Anyway, I love my local running shoe store (Movin’ Shoes). I went in, tried on the newer version of my old pair that I loved, ran a lap around the parking lot, purchased them and left. Simplicity is the best. If you see a streak moving around Pacific Beach in the early mornings, that’s me flying around in my new shoes.
See? Small things are often Great things. There is always something to be grateful for. Happy weekend to you all.
