First Friday of August, and time for a little great list action again. Some weeks just kind of roll by, same old stuff happening, and when I sit down to write The Great List, I think, “man, this is really boring”. But you know what? That’s really what The Great List is all about. It’s easy to let life pass you by. I mean, July was here and gone in the blink of an eye (am I right?). Taking two seconds out of your week to stop, look around, and take note of what’s great in your life can be an invaluable exercise for everyone. If you don’t, next thing you know you’ll wake up an old person wondering where your life went. So stop now, and really think, “What great things are going on in my life right now?”
1. The Hubs and I went to our inaugural concert in the park this summer. We missed last week while we were in Chicago, but this past Sunday we were up there with our lawn chairs and picnic dinner enjoying the impressive ocean view, upbeat latino tunes, and relishing in the community atmosphere. The thing I love the most about the concerts in the park each summer, is seeing the whole neighborhood come together under a common bond. Kids are running around laughing, kites are flown, people dance. Its a really wonderful feeling. The Hubs will be gone this Sunday, but I’m hoping Jen and Leila will come with me because its my favorite one of the season, The Beatles cover band Rockola.
2. I had a great photo shoot with a returning client this week. Returning clients are awesome because you get that validation that they loved your work and are happy to hire you again. Plus, it makes work that much better since you already know that you get along, and you don’t have that nervous feeling of, “I hope our work styles are compatible” when you’re on your way there. This particular shoot was great because it was a small crew, and a realistic amount of shots for the time period (which almost never happens in my world). I hate feeling rushed when I’m getting paid to make something look perfect.
3. I’m LOVING the Olympics! My most favorite so far has been the US Women’s swim team, namely Missy Franklin, Allison Schmitt, and Rebecca Soni. What a seemingly sweet bunch of girls who give off such a happy and fun vibe. Often times Olympians seem very serious (rightfully so, they’ve trained for this their whole lives) but these girls genuinely seem to be having fun and relishing the experience while still trying their best, and taking the competition seriously. The other thing I’ve been loving about the Olympics is the totally weird sports that I never even knew existed on the professional level like kayaking and trampoline. I knew synchronized diving existed, but its still weird. Very difficult, yes, but still a strange thing to be a professional at.
4. I was finally able to return all the stuff associated with my old job, so now my home office is a clean slate, ready to be revamped with inspiring stuff, and a new energy. Ok, right now its just voids in dust where my old computers and files were, but soon it will be a serene and uplifting space where my creativity comes to life! I’m really looking forward to the switch.
Yay weekend! I just have a couple of easy meetings today, and some paperwork to do, and then plan to get busy in the kitchen. I have some birthday treats to make, which is one of my favorite things (recipe next week!), then The Hubs and I are planning to go out to dinner (curry I hope!) I hope you all had a great week! Take the time to reflect on it, then carry that positivity through your weekend!
