It’s 2pm and I just realized it’s Friday. This week has DRAGGED mostly due to recovering from my trip to Michigan last weekend for my friend Krista’s wedding. At my age, multi-day recovery periods are a real thing. Anyway, after a week of being half awake, and unable to truly get my bearings, I’m enjoying a moment of clarity finally, and figured now is as good a time as any to reflect and share some gratitude.
1. Oh man, last weekend was so fun. More than anything I’m so grateful to see and hug my friends, a luxury I no longer have on a daily basis. We ate, we drank, we danced, we laughed. The fatigue, mosquito bites, and hangover were worth every second. There is nothing better than weekends like that. I’m elated for Krista and Scott. I think they’re a great match, and hope that the happiness from the weekend follows them throughout their marriage.
2. You may or may not know that Val and I are Olympics super fans. I’m so stoked that the Olympics are on and The Hubs set up a way for me to watch it (we don’t have cable anymore). I’m Grateful for the break in political rants online, and the positivity and togetherness we as a country get to share if only for a short time. Every Olympics year I’m truly moved by the dedication and determination these athletes put forth, especially the very young ones. When I was 17 I can assure you I was nowhere near committed to anything in my life. They are an inspiration to me in every sense of the word.
3. I was on BART (public transportation) this week heading to an event, and was in a terribly foul mood. Next thing I know these breakdancers get on the train and start putting on a show. Granted, they weren’t very good, but they definitely helped coax me out of my dark cloud. I mean, these guys were just out in public, doing their thing in front of total strangers. I couldn’t help but smile. When we left Pacific Beach, I was sad about missing “the crazies”, all the wacky, colorful beach folk that kept life interesting. Fortunately I’m learning that Oakland has their own batch of crazies to keep me amused on the most irritating of days.
4. Similarly, I was driving somewhere this week, still in a foul mood, and when I checked my rearview mirror at a stoplight the guy behind me was JAMMING OUT. I mean full on singing, dance moves, the whole nine yards. I grinned. I loved that guy. He totally made my day. Sometimes you need a reminder that life isn’t so serious after all. Thanks funny guy in the car. I needed that.
Here’s hoping that my weekend is clarifying. I need the cloudiness in my head and heart to finally go away so I can attack next week like a shiny sunbeam. Wishing you all some peace this weekend too.
