This week was kind of a rough one for me physically. The older I get, the longer it takes me to fully recover from vacations, partying and the like. Of course San Diego chose this week to spring a major heat wave on me, which did not help with getting back into the groove of regular life after 2 weekends away. Pretty much the entire week was enacted in a slow, lethargic haze of humidity. I’m very grateful that its finally Friday.
1. When I got in my car on Monday to go to work, she would not start. Poor Senty. I love this car so much. I’ve had her since college, and although she’s now spotty and sun-bleached, and completely covered with sand and dog hair on the inside, she’s still my baby. I nearly failed my smog test this past spring and the cost of the repair would out weigh Senty’s value, so I know her days are numbered. However, I wan’t quite ready to say good-bye just yet. Thankfully The Hubs is a “car man”, and with a little advice from our friend Dan, he was able to get her running again! In fact, she’s running almost better than before! The Hubs believes that if you have the time, tools and know-how you can drive a car forever. This is evidenced by his 1993 Jeep (The first car he ever bought) that is sitting in our driveway. I’m hoping The Hubs will take on Senty’s major, costly repair job and her and I will be able to drive into our twilight years together.
2. I started doing hot yoga this week (yes, the hottest week of the year) and didn’t die! In fact, I kind of liked it. Yes, I was the sweatiest person in there, and yes things got a little slippery, but I definitely felt good after each class. The deal was a week unlimited for $10 so The Hubs and I went several times which I think may be a bit excessive. Once a week is fine for me going forward. Trying new things is the key to really living in my opinion. Even if you don’t like something, at least you have something new to talk about for a day or two. Its so easy to get stuck in a stagnant position in life, but getting unstuck is as easy as hot yoga…..or reading a new author, or trying a new restaurant, or taking a walk after dinner everyday. Life is full of endless choices.
3. Despite the heat and humidity, I’ve kind of been loving the weather this week. One day it was so clear that I could see all the way to Mexico. The next it rained! Rain in San Diego in the summer is very rare, and I’m always excited when it happens. Where I live is so beautiful. The crystal clear sunny days really highlight the blue ocean, and the rain clouds make for beautiful sunsets.
Ok, my fingers are slipping off the keyboard from sweating so much (when you live by the beach you generally don’t have AC) so I’m going to cut this short. I hope you all enjoy the long holiday weekend! Stay cool!
