This week just about killed me, but I managed to make it through. Our last obstacle is a big garage sale we’re holding this weekend, and then it’s smooth sailing into the holiday next week. I really need a timeout.
- We were in Oakland for 4 days over the weekend looking for a place to live. It wasn’t the best experience ever, but there were some Great parts. Firstly, it was sunny and relatively warm the whole time we were there. Someone described it as “typical winter weather” which makes me feel good about the climate in general (let’s not forget i’m a SoCal weather wuss). Secondly, the city seemed really cool and interesting, but still small and easy to navigate. We’ve identified a couple of areas we’d be happy living in, so now we just need to find that perfect spot. Lastly, I got to meet and hug our friend’s 2 week old baby. I’m glad I’ll have a mini friend up there to watch grow up.
- My friend Val has taken the reigns on hosting Thanksgiving this year. Normally, hosting Thanksgiving is one of my most favorite things ever, but this year I just don’t have the time or mental capacity to make it happen. Val the non-cook is taking over, ordering BBQ, and dealing with all the cleaning, setting up, and fridge Jenga that is usually on my plate this time of the year. I’m so grateful for one less thing to think about.
- You know that feeling of relief when you fall into your own, familiar bed after a string of long, stressful days? It’s the best, and was definitely the best part of my week after house hunting in Oakland. I’m so grateful that even though the time is flying by, I still feel like we’ve allowed ourselves enough time to get it all done. Each week seems busier than the last, but every night brings the relief and comfort of my own bed……and dog hugs. Those help too.
Val knew I was stressed out in Oakland, so she sent me this picture of Sydney wearing the alpaca hat I bought for Fiona in Bolivia last year. I mean, how can you not smile when you see this happy gal? Thankful for friends with cute babies that know when I need a pick-me-up. Have a great weekend everyone! (and come see us at our garage sale tomorrow if you’re in San Diego)
