Tis the season for holiday baking and I am feeling festive y’all!
Last year I had to cancel my annual cookiepocalypse due to the fact that I still didn’t know my neighbors well enough to randomly knock on their doors and hand them a bunch of cookies, but times have changed.
This year I have at least 5 sets of neighbors, my mailman, and the guys who work at the corner store to bake for. I am stoked! A year’s worth of excessive friendliness and neighborhood networking has paid off and I can finally get back to my regular holiday baking routine.
In the past, I have done a mix of holiday classics mixed with new and unique recipes. This year is no exception and I have been scouring stores and the internet for some inspiration.
Of course, my favorite store, Target came to my rescue. Do they ever NOT have cute stuff?
While browsing the grocery section the other day I came across the greatest invention I have seen in a while. Pillsbury™ Filled Pastry Bag Vanilla Flavored Frosting. Already made frosting that’s already fully loaded into a neat pastry bag complete with a frosting tip?!?!
Frosting has long been a nemesis of mine, and the fact that I can buy it ready to use like this instantly eliminates so much mess from my life! I gasped right there in the aisle and tossed the package into my cart.
My creative juices were flowing and I continued my search to find more new and exclusive ingredients. (Another great thing about Target is that they carry exclusive ingredients that you can’t get anywhere else).
A trip down the candy aisle presented me with one of these exclusive items,DOVE® Chocolate Holiday Rice Krispies® Treats™. Yeah, I pretty much can’t resist anything caramel so these were definitely a go.
Now, how to bring it all together?
Sugar cookies would have been the obvious choice for decorating with candy and frosting, but I wanted to make something different. A glimpse of the Rice Krispies in the cereal aisle was all it took to convince me that this year’s decorated item would definitely be Rice Krispies treats.
(well, that, and the fact that there is a Cartwheel offer available in the Target app for Rice Krispies right now – win win, am I right?). A little bit different, a little unexpected, but still easy to make, family friendly, and fun to decorate.
A classic Rice Krispies treat recipe and a few cookie cutters later and I was in full on creative mode.
There are tons of great ways to incorporate the DOVE® Chocolate Holiday Rice Krispies® Treats™ into the Rice Krispies treats and I tried out a bunch of them. I pressed some directly into the Rice Krispies mixture, I sandwiched them between 2 layers of Rice Krispies treats, and even added them after (easily!) piping on some Pillsbury frosting.
Just add sprinkles and you’ve got a holiday treat worthy of any cookie swap.
I have to say I’m really missing my cookiepocalypse partner in crime, Jen and her family during this time of the year.
This is the perfect craft activity to do with your family, especially with the easy to use frosting bag. I love watching tiny imaginations at work!
I’ll be sure to pack up a few of these and send them down to San Diego so they can see how I’m doing cookiepocalypse up north.
If you’re looking for a fun baking project for your whole family this season, head over to Target and pick up some Rice Krispies, a new Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag (don’t forget to download the Cartwheel offer in the Target app for 25% off before you go!) and some Target exclusiveDOVE® Chocolate Holiday Rice Krispies® Treats™!
All you need is a few cookie cutters, some colorful toppings and a little imagination and your holidays are sure to be tasty and festive. Make sure to package some up and share the love with those close to you.
