Every year for probably the last decade or more, my friend Jenny and I have had a bi-annual date where I go to see her anywhere she is around the country for her birthday (January 31st) and she comes to see me anywhere that I am for the 4th of July. This year is no exception. I was going to write a nice recipe for y’all today, but my mind has already checked out for the weekend as I sit here in anticipation of Jenny’s arrival.
Our weekend plans are typical: Pool, sunshine, lots of great food, laughs, and of course champagne. As I sifted through some old photos trying to find something 4th appropriate, I realized some things never change. It seems like my love of sunshine and good company has been in my blood since I was little.
This holiday I hope you all make some time for those you love. The true spirit of holidays can easily get overshadowed by stress, traffic, party planning, etc. If you find your stress levels rising, take a moment to remind yourself what’s truly important. Skip the chaos and do what makes you happy. Its the simple memories of sitting around laughing with your friends that you’ll hold on to forever.
So relax! Be merry! Feel the sun on your face (or belly). Take in the ocean breeze, or mountain air, or hot desert wind….whatever you may be facing. Be grateful for these moments and have a wonderful holiday.
