The past few days we have had some legitimate rain storms. We’re talking thunder and lightning, which is a major anomaly for San Diego. I think all the residents have really been enjoying it. I know I have.
Rain like this reminds me of my youth in the midwest. The sky gets dark, the air feels heavy, and you can smell the rain before you see it. It comes down loud and heavy, then eventually clears to amazing blue skies, or an unforgettable sunset. It’s the one thing that’s usually missing from my epic San Diego summers.
Whenever I go visit people and it rains, they tend to apologize for the bad weather. I always tell them not to worry because it’s such a novelty to me. It has become an exciting event in my life.
As much as I have been relishing the rain (lord knows we need it in this drought), I’m sure my feelings would be different if it lingered longer than a couple of days. Sunshine is necessary to my well being. It’s what carries me through each day, and I become absolutely miserable without it.
Rain, it’s great to see you, but don’t outstay your welcome.
While I wait for the sunshine to return, I’ve thought up a way to bring a little brightness to my week.
The final member of my beer float club, joining my beer creamsicle float, and my chocolate stout float, is this super refreshing lemon sorbet beer float featuring Modern Times Beer’s Fortunate Islands. This float tastes like pure sunshine.
I wasn’t sure if citrus on citrus would work, and I questioned if you could even make a good float without a creamy ice cream, but this combo was my favorite of the bunch by far. It definitely wasn’t as foamy as the other two, but it was crisp and frosty, and majorly hit the spot on this hot, muggy day.
