Cart your holiday leftovers home in style.
I was at Target the other day looking for some Rubbermaid TakeAlongs® containers in the limited edition holiday colors, and a woman stopped me to tell me she liked my sweater. I thanked her and walked away, but I smiled about it all the way home.
Isn’t that that best? Doesn’t it make your day when some random person compliments you? I love being on the receiving end of those compliments, but I also love being that person.
These days we’re all moving through life so quickly. I try to make it a point to try to be aware of the small details. I’m that person that sends hand written notes. I try to give thoughtful and unique gifts. I smile at strangers and dole out compliments all day long. I literally stop to smell flowers.
There are a lot of joyful things happening in the world, and I want participate in, and help spread that joy.
The holidays are the perfect time to be grateful, and to spread some cheer. When I host people for the holidays, I don’t want them to just come, eat and leave overstuffed (although I do that too), I want them to feel special and loved and appreciated. I want them to feel at home, like they are a part of my family.
This is where my attention to detail comes in handy.
I have hosted a myriad of holiday parties in my day, and I’ve got the formula down pretty well. I know when to shop, when to prep, and when to set up. I also love to dream up new and unique details to make my guests feel loved.
One of my favorite items to provide at any gathering, especially ones that involve a large food spread, is personalized take home containers for each of my guests.
I always make way too much food, and The Hubs and I cannot possibly eat it all, so I make sure my guests feel great about taking home a to-go box to enjoy the next day.
This process has evolved over the years, but it always begins with Rubbermaid TakeAlongs®. These containers are affordable, spill-proof and microwaveable for easy reheating, not to mention you can get them at Target (any excuse to go to Target!). Plus, they’re huge so you can fit a ton of leftovers in them.
Depending on the occasion, I like to decorate them with the name of each family in attendance, and a little festive décor so it feels to them like they’re taking home a gift at the end of the evening.
Is there any better take home favor than leftovers?
At the end of the meal, I hand out my personalized to-go containers and everyone can help themselves to whatever they might be craving more of, but don’t have room for at the moment.
As time has gone on and more children join our group, I’ve turned this into a family friendly activity. While the adults chit-chat and enjoy the holidays, I set up a big crafting station with glue, glitter, stickers and ribbon for the kids so they can make their own custom to-go containers for their family.
Hopefully when people reach into their fridge for round two the next day, they remember the great times we had together, and once again feel the love and attention to detail that I put into the event in the first place.
Spreading cheer, one leftover at a time.
