The Hubs and I host Thanksgiving for our SD family and anyone else who is “family-less” each year. I love Thanksgiving because it gives me an excuse to cook a lot, and to try a lot of new recipes. The problem I have run into in the past is that I’ll read a million magazines, see 2 or 3 recipes for something that look really good, and have to pick one and make it for the holiday without actually testing it first. Sometimes it turns out great, sometimes I’m stuck with a lot of leftovers. Not this year however! I have instated the Stuffing Blind Taste Test!
The stuffing recipes I have seen in the magazines and online this fall have looked too delicious to be able to choose. I narrowed it down to 2 (well, sort of 3) options and made both recipes this week to use in a blind taste test. Originally, I was planning on doing Martha Stewart vs. Cooking Light but after reading the recipes, they were virtually identical with a few small changes, so I had to search for a worthy competitor elsewhere.
In one corner: Martha Stewart/Cooking Light Hybrid stuffing! (Recipe link is to Cooking Light because the Martha Stewart recipe is not online. I found it in last month’s magazine titled Whole-Wheat Stuffing with Turkey Sausage) In the other corner: Pear, Prosciutto and Hazelnut stuffing from eatingwell.com! Its ON!
I made both stuffings (foolishly on the hottest day of the year) and then made the rounds to all my friends houses to get their votes!
Um yes, that is the most official stuffing drawing I have ever done 😉
And the winner is………….by a LANDSLIDE, Stuffing B: the Pear, Prosciutto and Hazelnut stuffing from eatingwell.com. Poor Martha only got one vote! The person who liked the Martha recipe said it tasted more “holiday-ee” The rest of the voters loved the nut and pear elements to the winning stuffing, which attributed to its crunchiness. Many said the Martha stuffing was too “bready” and there was something “spicy” tasting in it that left a bad after taste (I can only assume it was the hot italian turkey sausage)
Anyway, thanks to all the participants! I know I will see most of you at my house this holiday so we can all enjoy the winning stuffing together! (and this time I KNOW I won’t have a ton leftover) This experiment was so fun, I’m wondering what else I can put to the blind taste test…..I’m pretty sure my friends won’t mind being my panel again and again!
