Even though it’s bikini season, I know a lot of people find it hard to workout in the summer months due to the excessive heat. Not everyone can afford a gym membership! If you workout outdoors like I do, you pretty much have 2 choices in the summer. Wake up before the sun, or wait until dark before burning your daily calories. Anything in between is just brutally hot.
Val’s back this month with a little hydration tip for all you who are braving the heat this summer. Make sure you drink enough water or you may end up packing on the pounds!
As temperatures soar this summer, proper hydration plays an even bigger role in your fitness routine. The more you exercise, the more important it is to drink the right amount of water before, during and after your workouts. The standard suggestion of drinking 8 glasses of water a day won’t be enough to keep up with all your additional sweating! It’s already difficult to get through a workout in higher temps; don’t let dehydration slow you down. Plus, the same part of the brain controls both hunger and thirst, so it sends the same signal whether you are hungry or thirsty. Confusing hunger for thirst can cause you to eat more than your body needs and pack on unnecessary weight!
Great tip Val! I carry a 32 oz re-useable water bottle with me everywhere I go. Water isn’t just important during a workout. You don’t even realize how much hydration is lost just going about your daily business. My personal rule is always reach for water first. After that, If I’m still thirsty or hungry, I can make a different choice.
Stay cool and hydrated out there everyone!
