We’re in the midst of our 5th summer here in our pool-tastic beach house. The Hubs grew up with a pool in his backyard in suburban Atlanta, so he knows all about the impromptu pool parties that seem to pop up every weekend. As someone who grew up on a lake, I was definitely privy to the neighborhood gathering, but this swimming pool culture is new to me.
Don’t get me wrong, parties on the fly are totally my sweet spot. I can whip up a plate of appetizers and a few fun cocktails at the drop of a hat. Plus, as a closet homebody, I secretly love that people come to me, and I rarely have to leave the house.
With each passing summer, our pool house has taken on a new party persona. Gone are the days of vats of “party punch” and keg beer. These days we’re more about quick and easy cocktails because there’s always a lot of kids (or dogs) running around that we need to keep our eyes on. We still love to sip on something fabulous and flavorful though!

I added some fresh basil and jalapeño to make this zesty, and majorly refreshing green dragon cocktail. It was the perfect accompaniment to the on-the-fly doggie pool party I hosted the other day. I’ll definitely be re-creating this one the next time my human friends stop by as well.

Recipe by BACARDI® Mixers
- ¼ can BACARDI® Mixers Margarita Mix, thawed
- ½ cup BACARDI® Limon
- ½ cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 medium jalapeño, seeds removed and sliced into rings
- Jalapeño for garnish
- Muddle jalapeño and basil together in the bottom of a large shaker. Add BACARDI® limon, and BACARDI® Mixers margarita mix.
- Shake for 15 to 20 seconds.
- Strain over ice and garnish with additional jalapeño.
- Serves 2-3 people
