Welcome to my new home in the Longfellow neighborhood of Oakland, California
I know Betsylife has been unusually quiet on the recipe front lately, but as you all know I’ve been adjusting to a life changing move. One thing I love about Oakland so far is our new house. We’ve been working tirelessly for the last 3 months to unpack, update, organize, and create a happy and welcoming space for us to call home.
I think when you’re a homeowner, the projects are never truly done. There will always be something new to improve upon, and we definitely still have a long way to go, but I wanted to give you all a glimpse into what we’ve accomplished so far.
My perfect space requires a few essentials. First and foremost, it has to be comfortable, and approachable. After all, dogs live here. Bright colors, unique patterns, lots of comfy pillows, personalized details, handmade items, plants, and candles are all necessary for creating my ideal space, but my most favorite part of this new home is definitely the natural light.
It’s the stuff dreams are made of.
I’m also crazy about the vintage character details of this home. Our house is completely remodeled, but the moldings, built ins, floors and fireplace are all original. Even the brand new windows have cute craftsman details.
We’re still working on the bedrooms and the yard (a major project that will take us many months), but you can catch a glimpse of my new bathrooms on my Instagram account. I never knew I could love bathrooms so much.
Another thing I’m loving is my new light and bright kitchen. Being a messy, creative type, I never thought I’d be responsible enough to have an all white kitchen, but I’m really loving the new mood it’s bringing to my photos. You can see some more of my kitchen and my unfinished yard in my latest Betsylife video.
Having my personal space finally set up the way I like it has been a huge mood booster. There’s still plenty of uncertainty happening in my life right now. Heck, I still have to use my GPS to get pretty much everywhere, but it’s comforting to be able to come home and relax in a familiar space.
I love being able to seeย photos of my friends and family, handmade items like the table placemats my mother in law made for me, ย and detail pieces like my llama planter that reminds me of epic adventures I’ve been on.ย Every piece in my home has a story to tell.
Even the dogs have their own special corners.
Thanks for stopping by! I’m looking forward to sharing more with you about our home, and our life here inย Oakland as we continue to settle in.

Love your colors. I’m not afraid of it and wish more people would use it. One thing, I shudder when I see a door blocked and wondered why you blocked your built- in with a chair. Your home is lovely, I just wondered, because it made me feel uncomfortable.
