It’s crock pot season! Wait is it? You’d think slow cooking would be a summer thing to avoid turning on the oven, but I certainly think of it as a fall staple. Hearty soups and chilis, delicious scents greeting you when you walk in from a crisp fall day is what comes to mind when the crock pot comes out.
I love nothing more than filling my crock pot in the morning and coming home later to a house filled with mouthwatering aromas, and a dinner that cooked itself.
So easy! I live for easy.
I consider myself a bit of a crock pot aficionado. I’ve made everything from cake to pasta in my crock pot. I’ve even baked bread in my crock pot!
Crock pot desserts aren’t as common as soup recipes, so I especially like to experiment with sweet treats in the slow cooker.
Slow Cooker Baked Apples
Recently I made these insanely simple baked apples in partnership with my friends at Sprouts, and I think I’m in love.
I wish I could describe in words how good my house smelled while these were cooking. Cinnamon-y, spicy, cozy……those words don’t do the intoxicating scent justice.
Beyond how good it smelled, I’m in love with this recipe because it took me about 10 minutes to prep. My neighbor generously gifted me some apples which I simply cored then stuffed with a basic oatmeal and spice mixture with ingredients that I picked up from Sprouts.
Put in Crock pot. Turn on.
As easy as it gets.
Of course any warm apple dessert is best served a la mode with a scoop of ice cream on top. Does it get any more seasonal or delicious than that?
I’m willing to bet that you’re never even going to bother with a full apple pie ever again. These crock pot baked apples give you all the same flavors, and all the same cozy vibes with about 1/8th of the effort. You’re welcome.
I’d love to hear what you make in your crock pot. Are you a chili purist or do you like to experiment with desserts and baking as well? Leave a comment below and let me know. And as always, if you decide to try this recipe, post a pic and tag @betsylife on Instagram or Facebook so I can see and share your creations.
